Up for consideration is this OLD SOUTH BEND 3 HOOK MINNOW IN FROG SPOT. This old South Bend Glass Eyed Wooden Minnow measures aprox. 3 1/8". The wood body measures 3 1/8". The overall length is aprox. 4 3/4". This is measured from end of line ties and is a hair over the 4 3/4" mark. The lure comes to the winner with PRISTINE GLASS EYES. There are no cracks, chips, nicks or hairlines in either glass eye. With lure facing right we see a nick behind and below the eye. Also a faint hook swing is seen behind the eye in the same general area. Behind the side hook there is some surface scratching to the varnish. You could call one small area a small surface nick. All this is faint and to the surface varnish not affecting much paint. The top is clean as far as hook nicking. Some surface rubbing is seen in our photos on the top to the varnish. Most of this is seen in the yellow or black spots where green is showing through. With lure facing left we see the hook swing behind the eye. One nick is present along the swing. Behind and below the side hook are remnants of the same surface varnish loss from hook swings. Only one small micro nick is found on the side with the lure facing left. Small crazing lines are seen on top near the tail The South Bend Minnow is basically free from crazing. We find only the crazing near the tail. The belly has a single belly weight with some loss of paint around the edges. The belly has small scratching and the same surface varnish loss. One nick is seen behind the the belly weight. Other small micro nicks and scratching are scattered throughout the minnow. There's scattered soil specks found scattered throughout. The hooks and hardware are tarnished as seen. This has the shallow cup hardware and horizontial hook hangers. The props are unmarked. Ask questions if you have one. We think this is a beauty!! This is a TOUGH SOUTH BEND WOODEN FROG MINNOW LURE!! RARE JAPANESE GRAYLING TROUT MOUNT by LEON CHANDLER 70s Closing : Feb-25-08 20:15:00 PST CLICK HERE TO BID!

This is a fantastic fish mount of a very large size Trout or Grayling ( I do not know ) that was caught by Leon Chandler while on a trip to Japan . I was told the fish was a Grayling, but it looks more like a trout to me. Either way, I understand that from Japan, this is a pretty good size example of this species. It was mounted for him by a Japanese specialist, who signed the backdrop of the mount, and sent to Leon via mail. The fish is a beauty and will certainly decorate any office den or any wall of an avid fisherman.

The frame size of this is 19" X 15.5" tall. The actual fish mount is approx 11" long.

For what it is worth, this piece came from the private and personal collection of Mr. Leon Chandler, of Cortland NY, known to many in the Fly fishing world as the first ambassador of fly fishing . Leon was legendary among his fishing contemporaries , and was a great part of putting Cortland Line on the map of the World, not just the US. We have a few very selective pieces from his estate still left, which we have listed this week. From every correspondence I have received from people that knew him, he was a pleasure to be around, and very giving of his gift. This piece will make a nice addition to any home or collection.

Today we have for auction a vintage 3 piece,10 foot, House of Hardy Bamboo Fly Rod. The rod is a "Palakona" model, " The Crown Houghton", in great shape. The windings are tight and the varnish is bright and the finish shines. The reel seat features a reversible butt as shown in the photos. Cork grip is solid and nicely colored, as one would hope for in a rod 50+ years old. The stripping and tip guides have an agate like interior ring to prevent line wear and contribute to precision casts. The ferrules have the original wooden plugs as shown in photos and a positive twist connection system. Green closely spaced decorative windings are in good shape. The reel seat is stamped with the serial number H9183, which dates the rod to August 1956. Also stamped on the reel seat are two royal crests, both of which read ‘By Appointment’ beneath them. The larger of the two is the crest of King George V, and the other is His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales.

Between the two crests is stamped ‘Made by Hardy’s England’. Above the cork grip is hand lettered the words—The "Crown Hougton"--- "Palakona"---Legal Trade Mark. The proper name for this model is The "Crown Houghton", so perhaps the rod painter produced a rare misspelling. I can assure you that the rod lettering is all original in any case. The rod and aluminium case are true and straight as an arrow. Pictures do not do it justice.

The auction includes the original cloth protective sleeve with a bright Hardy cloth owner’s label and little to no fading. Also included is the original aluminum rod tube marked "Made by Hardy Bros. England"™ on both ends.

Antique Leather + Wicker Fishing Fish Creel Basket NR Bidding has ended

This listing is for an antique leather and wicker fishing creel basket. It measures approximately 13.5" inches wide, 8" inches high, and 7" inches deep. The numbers 1 through 9 are stamped into the leather on top to indicate inches and a name that appears to say "Leaton" is also written there. On the leather on the bottom, it's stamped "___ Stitch Finest Quality" and it also appears to say "Taca Brand." There is a square shaped hole in the top of the basket and another strap inside that doesn't appear to be original. The basket is in good condition with moderate scuffs, discoloration, and cracking in the leather. There are a few tears in the leather and the end of the top strap has come off but is included. 1950s LEROY HOWELL SUCKER~FOLK ART FISH SPEARING DECOY Closing : Feb-19-08 10:59:39 PST CLICK HERE TO BID!

Here is a great opportunity for collectors to add a wood tail, Leroy Howell Sucker to their collection. The large Sucker is a very tough fish decoy to find. The red and cream color combination is a Minnesota classic and the Sucker form with its sweeping, carved, wood tail is one of the most visually appealing of all of Howell's designs. This decoy was purchased from the Howell family several years ago. It is guaranteed to be in original condition and is also guaranteed to be authentic. Leroy Howell is one of the top names in Old Time Minnesota fish decoy carving and his decoys are featured in all collector's reference books. For additional information on Howell check the back issues of Hunting and Fishing Collectibles Magazine for an in- depth feature article which reveals many formerly unknown details about this interesting man. Also check the reference book FOLK ART FISH DECOYS by Dr. Petersen. The length of this example is 8 1/2" and has double incised eyes and a wonderfully folky Sucker form. The right fin is partially corroded away from storage but overall the decoy is in beautiful condition. Wood tail Howell decoys are thought to be among his folkiest, most visually appealing designs and collector interest in them is very high. This decoy is in original, lightly fished condition. There are a few scuffs and nicks hear and there and the lower tail tip is lightly worn. Opportunities to add an investment quality Leroy Howell fish decoy to your collection do not come along very often so make sure to take advantage of this one. The age is 1950s.
