Here is a beautiful 1976 ABU Ambassadeur 5500CDL 14K GOLD with wood case papers, from 1976.

According to Simon Shimomura in The Ambassadeur and I, Final Chapter, along with the Record Ambassadeur model SG, the 5500CDL is rated as GRADE 5, “TOUGHEST." Many sources indicate only 500 were ever specially produced for Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.). It has been reported that Ray Scott himself, founder of B.A.S.S. has confirmed that no more than 500 were made.

The 5500 CDL is perhaps most beautiful and sought after of all the rare Ambassadeurs ever produced. It was never advertised in Napp och Nytt or the Garcia Annuals. Simon also notes that no spare parts were EVER produced for this reel.

Serial/Lot number is 760900. All parts and stickers are guaranteed ORIGINAL.

Comes with SMOOTH face end caps, CUT END star wheel, FLAT SMOOTH face line guide, with handle keeper plate. Includes WOOD CASE, PAPERS, extra large capacity SPOOL, FULL PARTS TUBE, OILER, WRENCH.

The sideplates show scratching on top, but hardly at all elsewhere. The smooth silver-grey anodizing is NOT faded, NOT stained, NOT spotted. The 14K gold shows minor surface scratching with NO pitting or oxidation. There is some adhesive residue around the "HIGH SPEED" sticker that probably could be removed if desired. The handle knob has a little end looseness. It runs very smoothly.
