I am pleased to be able to offer this pristine Abbey & Imbrie “The Imbrie” style Black Bass Reel in excellent+ condition. This reel was offered by Abbey & Imbrie in the1879 advertisement that comes with the reel that states, “For sale by first class dealers. None Genuine without name of Abbey & Imbrie tamped on the disk”. This reel is a dead ringer for the reel in the ad and I'm sure was made by the same maker, however, it is not stamped Abbey & Imbrie. The reel appears to be made by either Vom Hofe or Malison but I could not say for sure as it has no markings whatsoever. The reel measures 2 ½ inches in diameter and has a wonderful raised hard rubber gear housing, and German silver fittings. The reel is a 2 to 1 multiplier and operates perfectly. With its beautiful “S” handle and sculptured hard rubber knob and head plate this reel is a wonderful early example of the reel makers art. The reel comes with a very nice alligator skin “D” style reel case with a fancy hasp, the back of the lid has become detached cleanly from the body of the case. This little reel is a true gem inside and out and will make a great addition to any New York reel or bait casting reel collection.
