1936-1938 HEDDON #200 "Reliable" 5-1/2' Split Bamboo Closing : Aug-14-08 16:00:00 PDT CLICK HERE TO BID! |
Up for auction a Very Nice 1936-1938 HEDDON NO.200 "RELIABLE" 5-1/2 FT., 2-PIECE SPLIT BAMBOO BAIT CASTING ROD WITH CLOTH BAG. First offered by Heddon as the No.1-1/2 in 1913 and redesignated the No.200 in 1933, the "Reliable" would go on to sell off and on through the 1952 season. Because this example is equipped with three guides on the tip section & has the reel seat stamped with the simple "PAT." marking(both first appearing in 1936) and has the Classic Era rodshaft markings(last appearing in 1938), we know this was built from 1936 to 1938. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten "Heddon" diagonally across three flats and "#200" on one flat, just above the winding check. This model comes equipped with full agate guides & tip top, screw-locking "Hold-Tite" reel seat with attached trigger, silk wraps of orange tipped in black and solid cork tournament grip & foregrip. I've included a photo of the original listing from page 25 of Heddon's 1936 catalog. Rod is in about Very Fine condition, showing significant use, but remaining in excellent shape. Bamboo is very nice, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. There are numerous nicks and scratches to the original varnish, but that too remains nice. Both sections are the correct length, with the tip section having only a faint set. Original silk wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip top, ferrules and winding check are excellent. Reel seat works perfectly. Solid cork tournament grip and foregrip look hardly used. This is a great example of a rod that has seen plenty of action, yet has been meticuously maintained. Put up in a non-original two-sectioned cloth bag, which is included for purposes of shipping and storage. The bag is in Extra Fine condition, with no holes or tears whatsoever. The No.200 was never offered with a tube. A very choice, early example of this popular baitcaster from James Heddon's Sons. To be sold with a very modest starting bid and NO RESERVE. Buyer to pay $12.00 for bullet-proof, professional shipping via U.S. Priority Mail. Insurance is optional. Payment must be received within 10 days of auction closure. I accept PayPal, Money Orders and Cashier's Checks. Check out my other vintage tackle auctions and thanks for looking.
