ABU 7000 Ambassadeur reel in box older big "A" version

Scarce* 1916-18 HEDDON #2-1/2 5', 2/2 Split Bamboo Bidding has ended

It's my pleasure to offer at auction an Extremely Nice and quite Scarce 1916-1918 HEDDON NO.2-1/2 5 FT., 2/2 SPLIT BAMBOO BAIT CASTING ROD WITH CLOTH BAG. First offered by James Heddon's Sons in 1913, the No.2-1/2 was named the "Stalwart" in 1928, redesignated the No.250 in 1933 and would evolve from there into several models that would sell into the early 1950's. Because this example comes with the cork foregrip(first equipped on the No.2-1/2 in 1916) and the extra tip section(last offered with the No.2-1/2 in 1918), we know this was built from 1916 to 1918. Also, the line guide configuration of all file-proof steel guides, one steel tip top and one agate tip top was only used on the No.2-1/2 for those three years. I've included a photo of the original listing from Heddon's 1918 catalog. Also comes equipped with silk windings in two colors, sliding band reel seat with trigger and solid cork grip & foregrip made of delicate 1/16" cork rings. There is a total of 55 intermediate wraps the length of the rod. Carries a virtually perfect "Dowagiac" bass rodshaft decal. Reel seat is stamped with the early "Heddon's Dowagiac" rod & reel logo. Rod is in solid Very Fine condition, showing only light wear for these. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits or cracks whatsoever. All three sections are the correct length, with one tip section having a very faint set. Varnish appears to be a recent overcoat and is in extra fine condition. Bass decal is amoung the finest I've seen. All silk wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip tops, ferrules, winding check and buttcap are excellent. The sliding band reel seat works perfectly, showing only moderate wear. The solid cork grip and foregrip are absolutely pristine, looking virtually brand new. Put up in a non-original cloth bag that is also in Very Fine condition, with no holes or tears. The No.2-1/2 was never offered with a tube. A beautiful example of a Scarce WWI-era Heddon bait rod that is becoming increasingly difficult to find, with most now residing in private collections. This is by far the toughest crazy crawler there is to find. It has the all white eyes no other color in the pupil. The chipmunk is a tough one to come across , but there are a few of them out there. This one is a lot more scarce than a chipmunk by a long shot. It is in very good condition except for a slight crunch on top of the head as you can see in the photos. This is the 2100 model being 2 3/4'' long. It has the gold dot under the chin. 2 piece hardware.

If you are into crazy crawlers this may be your only chance to own one as tough as this.

ARTHUR KOVALOVSKY 12/0 BIG GAME REEL

Hand Made in Hollywood California, Arthur Kovalovsky 12/0 Type I Standard Model big game reel with the round non-counterbalanced drag housing. This 12/0 reel measures 6 inches in diameter by 4 ¼ inches across the inside of the spool and is in 100% original, excellent- condition. The foot is marked 12/0 - NO. 53 – 600 YDS. NO.39. This fine example is made of brushed aluminum with a stainless steel spool and also comes equipped with the desirable above the rod brace. Type I Standard Model reels such as this came with the throw lever freespool situated beneath the knurled drag adjuster knob. Built around 1940, this large 12/0 size reel would be considered a true big game reel built to catch the largest swordfish, marlin and tuna. This reel cost $250 when it was built near the end of the great depression which is comparable to about $3,400.00 in today's dollars. Kovalovsky reels were favored by prominent anglers like Zane Grey and are now considered America's premier collectable big game reel.

I really don't mean to diss anyone in particular, but it's my observation that all too often, light weight rods make up for light weight casters. Vincent Marinaro used a 10 wt salmon line on the Letort over those constitutionally spooky fish (please see p. 54 of the Code before e-mailing me about the implausibility of that statement). Up for auction is a very nice George Lawrence leathered, split willow creel. Creel is signed on the back as well as the metal tag on the front. It is also stamped 5A. Creel measures about 16" wide and 10" tall. It is signed. It is in very nice condition with the only problem being the missing willow wraping on the bottom of the creel as can be seen it the pic. Hardy Perfect Fly Reel

This is a super 4 inch HARDY PERFECT REEL.

It is a quality right hand wind reel in perfect mechanical condition. All original with no cracks in the frame, winding plate or the spool which has four neat little cut outs in it. The foot is smooth and made from brass and it is complete.

There is a nickel silver line guide that may have been retrofitted by Hardy Bros. many years ago. Or, it is also possible, the reel was restored at Hardys by one of their skilled craftsmen. There is beautifully sculptured piece of copper shaped around the frame and this has been used to secure the line guide in place.

The action on the reel is incredibly smooth with a crisp two tone sound. There is absolutly no wobble or free play anywhere on the reel. I understand the click system is designated as a 1912 check system.

Estate Fresh Antique Hand Forged EEL Spear. Has 10 prongs, and is about 11" wide at the top. No damage or repairs, and as found with light surface rust. And we have not cleaned or touched it. This had a 8 foot wooden handle on it, and we had to cut it off to remove from barn attic.
