ARTHUR KOVALOVSKY 12/0 BIG GAME REEL

Hand Made in Hollywood California, Arthur Kovalovsky 12/0 Type I Standard Model big game reel with the round non-counterbalanced drag housing. This 12/0 reel measures 6 inches in diameter by 4 ¼ inches across the inside of the spool and is in 100% original, excellent- condition. The foot is marked 12/0 - NO. 53 – 600 YDS. NO.39. This fine example is made of brushed aluminum with a stainless steel spool and also comes equipped with the desirable above the rod brace. Type I Standard Model reels such as this came with the throw lever freespool situated beneath the knurled drag adjuster knob. Built around 1940, this large 12/0 size reel would be considered a true big game reel built to catch the largest swordfish, marlin and tuna. This reel cost $250 when it was built near the end of the great depression which is comparable to about $3,400.00 in today's dollars. Kovalovsky reels were favored by prominent anglers like Zane Grey and are now considered America's premier collectable big game reel.
