Antique Vintage Old RARE Turner Spider Lure , Box&Paper

The Turner Company's SPIDER LURE

If you write about something as "rare", then it damn well better be just that, because most lures are seen in auctions or on Ebay from time to time. Delbert Turner was the inventor, and his father, Ed, machined these out in their hardware store in Hale, Missouri. Dean Murphy stated in his book, "Fishing Tackle Made in Missouri", that only 150 or so were made, and they didn't sell well. He stated that Delbert destroyed about 40-50 of them before he retired, so it goes to figure that there are only a 100 of these, OR LESS, left in the world. Now if you figure that alot of them that were used may have rusted out, that leaves VERY DARN FEW left!!!

This bizzarre metal lure is one ABSOLUTELY EXCELLANT example of the Spider Lures, and you don't see many of them around at all, especially in this condition... Absolutely 100% MINT condition; no rust, no delapitation, NOTHING!!! ....the lure, the box, the papers, the whole kit and kaboodle (check out the pictures) ..... The tabs on the box are even in great shape, so good, that I won't bend them down... as nice as I've seen ever; they DO NOT show up in antique stores, and you DON'T find them in Lures Shows; the owners keep them, no matter what condition they're in. I collect the most unusual lures and fishing hardware that I can find on the market and antique stores throughout the South. Watch my items up for auction over the course of the next month for the best and most sought after lures out there!!!

Run of the mill lures are a dime a dozen... while (more...)

F.E.THOMAS ‘SPECIAL’ 5 WT BAMBOO FLY ROD 1937 -1942

Monday, January 19th, 2009
or20090120b.jpg F.E.THOMAS 'SPECIAL' 5 WT BAMBOO FLY ROD 1937 -1942

I HAVE A SCARCE F.E.THOMAS 5 WT 7' BAMBOO FLY ROD FOR SALE.THERE ARE 2 TIPS 1 PERFECT AND 1 WITH A SMALL FIXABLE CRACK NEAR THE TIP. THE BUTT HAD A STAMPED ROD SEAT # E F

5

THE ROD CLOTH BAG IS ORIGINAL (FROM PICTURES OF SIMILAR ROD BAGS( AND THE TUBE IS A THOMAS ROD COMPANY FROM THE DECAL THAT IS PRETTY WORN, THIS IS A FLY ROD THAT THE OWNER HAD HOURS OF ENJOYMENT USING.VERY LIGHT TO THE TOUCH ,THE ROD GRIP SHOWS USE,THE BUTT CAP HAS STAMPED F.E.THOMAS. SPECIAL BANGOR,ME,,,THE BOTTOM SECTION IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE AND THIS WOULD BE A GOOD ADDITION TO ANY COLLECTORS COLLECTION. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS EMAIL ME AT W1CBI@VERIZON.NET....DAVID length of each section is 42 1/2" on the 2 tips and the same for the bottom butt section. It is very had to tell if in the tip section crack is a true crack or a scrape,I tried to take a photo but it shows nothing because of how narrow it is,I think this if it is a crack is very fixable and would make the tip very useable if you want this to fish with.As this is the 1st bamboo fly rod I've picked to feel how it would be like to cast I was amazed at the lightness and how it felt to hold it.The people that made this were true artists.rod grip is 5 1/2" in long and there is no "buy it now" price and my camera is real hihg end so pics are best I can do ...sorry I was also asked to put the value appraiser for .I was told it was a 5 wt rod, the varnish aaappears to be good and the wraps on the guides are good, tried to get a pic of the crack/scrape but it is so narrow it doesn't come out with the camera I have..sorry.

I emailed these pics to a person that is a vintage rod appraiser :Your rod is one that should be seen in the flesh so to speak as it is quite scarce, currently with the photos I’d say $700.00 but that could increase by half if the second tip is repairable or not in need of repair but it should be checked. …….It’s definitely a Special Model and appears original.

I had to correct the title as there is some debate about the E F 5 stamped on the butt one school says it is a numbering system for the reel seat the other a dating system .From info recieved if it is a dating system starting in 37 with a A the the E would make it 1942, I originally was informed it was pre37 so listed it this was so to be possibly more accurate I've changed the title....David (more...)

Eugene Hamlin 1875-1935 Pottawatomie Indian Fish Decoy

Eugene Hamlin (1875-1935) Pottawatomie Indian Fish Decoy. circa 1900 Fish Decoy by Native American Fishing Guide

This circa 1900 Brook Trout fish spearing decoy was made by Eugene Hamlin (1875- 1935) of Topinabee, Michigan. He was chief of his tribe, and an avid fisherman and fishing guide on Burt, Black, and Mullet Lakes in northern Michigan. While on a guiding trip in 1920, a fish hook became lodged in his foot. The wound turned into gangrene, and his leg eventually had to be amputated, pretty much ending his days of fishing and guiding.

I acquired a dozen of his fish decoys from a relative in the mid-1980’s. They where a variety of sizes and species. I traded and sold the others through the years, but hung on to this one because it was my favorite. There are lots of fish decoys out there that are attributed to Native Americans, but being able to identify the Native American that made them is virtually impossible. Here is a very early decoy, where the name and history of the maker are known - rare indeed!

This 6 ½ inch Brook Trout has a wood body, painted eyes, and tin fins and tail. In exceptional clean original condition.

Shipping via US Postal Service Insured Priority Mail within the USA is $7.00. Shipping to all other countries is $25.00. (more...)

RARE Tournament Casting Reel. Garcia Mitchell Spinning Reel. Check this out in the Mitchell collectors guide and websites. This reel is in Excellent condition and you will be pleased to add it to your collection. Reportedly only 60 - 100 of these were ever made.

The reel has been handled some and shown off but has never been used. The spool has a tiny chip on it that is shown in a few pictures and in one I point to it to make sure it is seen. Other than that it has a little dust due to age and the cabinet it was displayed in :)

This reel is one of the most collectable and unusual Mitchell Reels ever. It was received directly from the late president of Garcia Corporation (Angelo Desimone) as a gift.

These have been known to sell for s much as $4,000.00 due to the rare nature of the reel. Shipping is fixed 25.00 insured Priority for USA and 90.00 for overseas Priority Mail. (more...)
