Engraved with owners initials and name on head and tail plates. There are no cracks or chips on head or tail plates, foot has been lightly filed. 300 Mitchell 70th Anniversary Gold Trim Reel in Box Bidding has ended

All knowledgeable Mitchell Collectors and Historians I've ever talked to have told me that they agree on my study of the first version 300 series called "The Mitchell" where I state it was first made in the late thirties. Since we really don't know for a fact the exact year and to be safe, 1939 is acceptable. They also know I have overwhelming factual and a LOT of circumstantial evidence to prove this.

Unfortunately all records from the thirties to the beginning of mass production in 1946 has never been found. Because of this; some believe and publish 1946 is when the first version was made knowing that in 1946/47 the third version was being sold!

Mike and I thought it would be nice to celebrate the 70th anniversary. In our enthusiasm, we truly believed a very special 70th Anniversary reel should be made to celebrate. Due to self funding and after a lot of failed attempts, we ended up with three that were somewhat acceptable.

Here's one of three made and paid for. This was my original Mitchell 3rd Version marked #011. Two others were made with plans for a total of 10-2nd versions and 90-3rd versions in total. Our plan was to try get back what it costs us, it was not a money making scheme. It's also highly marked not to be EVER be confused as an original. Nice no problem old reel. Rather than a spring to facilitate the auto retrieve this reel uses a rubber band, sort of like an old balsa airplane does. Band is housed in the long apperture that sticks out like a sore thumb. An awful concept but it makes for a real conversation piece and a very scarce and collectible reel. One very small nick to the anodizing on the back and barely visible original price in marker remnants. A9.9, M10. Also selling a Benson and other Indiana types so please see my other auctions. Vintage Handitop Fishing Creel Portland Ore RARE XNICE! Bidding has ended

Up for bids is a Super, Extra Nice Fishing Creel made by Handitop Co. Portland Ore. This old creel has a Pat.No. 956801, about 1911 or so. It is 13 in. wide, about 10 1/2 in. high, and about 8 1/2 in. deep. The pictures speak for it and its Fabulous Condition, there is one buckle off the strap and some one added a bolt to replace it. First appeared in 1901, and sold throughout Michigan like Wildfire. They couldn't keep up with the demand, and the word about this lure was mostly spreading by mouth, newspapers and magazines were slow to come out at that time period...; it was obvious where the name came from; they couldn't keep these on the shelf. This lure put William Shakespeare, the Lure Maker, on the map. This bizzarre surface lure is one ABSOLUTELY EXCELLANT example of the Bucktail Revolutions, and you don't see many of them around at all, especially in this condition; ESPECIALLY UNDER A BUCK!!! (99 cents)...... (check out the pictures) ...as nice as I've seen down here; they DO NOT show up in antique stores, and when I have found them in Lures Shows; the owners want a bloody fortune for them, no matter what condition they're in....this one is missing one hook tine, off the treble hook.... it doesn't detract much from the display quality of the lure; not much at all... these are well over 100 YEARS OLD, and some of the most collectible of ancient metal lures available on the market today!!! I collect the most unusual lures and fishing hardware that I can find on the market and antique stores throughout the South. VINTAGE HARDY MARVEL 7 �' 3/2 BAMBOO FLYROD FLY ROD Bidding has ended

Up for bids is this vintage Hardy Marvel 7'1/2" 3/2 fly rod.(1965-1966) Marked on the butt "THE MARVEL PALAKONA REGD, TRADEMARK 7 1/2". The rod is in very good original condition and weighs in at 3 oz. The varnish is in excellent shape with no scratches, bag marks, or hook marks. This rod handles a 4-weight line quite nicely. As usual with Hardy rods all the sections are slightly different lengths. The rod bag is even sewn for the shorter tips. The rod shows no signs of repairs or restoration and the rod measures just over 7 ½" long when assembled. The ferrules are tight and they come with the original ferrule protectors, but one ferrule tip wrap needs rewrap as you can see in the photo. I never used this tip for avoid damages and because I don´t know how rewrap .All the hardware is in nice untouched original condition. The cork is also in nice condition with no loss or hook digs of any kind. This rod has a nice agate-stripping guide. Nice to find the bag and tube in great shape and with this rod as I'm told you had to purchase the tube separatly. Hardy tube and bag

There is one prototype from a luremaker out of Louisiana, and it's a one of a kind (the egg shaped lure), there is a rough Kent Frog and a James Donaly WOW lure; tough to find in ANY CONDITION!!!! Book is near Mint due to one small crease at the lower right corner otherwise its perfect.(see picture) No rips, tears, or stains. May have been read once or twice but for the most part been stored away. Signed and Numbered #29 (very low Number) This book belonged to a well known NJ Dealer who played an integral role in Fostering Mr Robert's Interest in Mitchell Reels. Hence the low Number, which were reserved for close friends and family. "Near Mint Condition"

Offered is a “Near Mint” condition Never Fished Fin Nor “Tycoon” No. 4 Spinning reel. The reel has all Original Documentation including correspondence from the original owner to Fin Nor. There is an extra Medallion engraved with the original owner’s name. It is said that the reel was a gift and unfortunately never fished. The original box is in Excellent condition and the reels soft padded case is in “Like New” “Mint” condition. All documentation including the sales tag from whom and where I purchased it over 15 years ago.

Those looking at the Fin Nor “Tycoon” knows of it’s venerable reputation for Tournament and Big Game Fishing. This “Was” the reel that was given to Presidents and Royalty. And if you were any kind of Big Game or Tournament fisherman, your boat had at least several of these aboard. The reel is built like a Tank and further built with the intent that the reel could be taken down and maintained or ‘tweaked’ to one’s taste or feel. This is One Magnificent Reel! A MUST for any Collector or for those that want the Best in a Professional Big Game Reel.

More modern offerings like the Van Staal has found fit to use a similar ‘non bail’ system on their Big Game reels. Those that have used the Non Bail system will appreciate the absence of the one thing that most often fails or is most vulnerable to accentual and under pressure breakage; the Bail.

What keeps this reel from being "Mint" condition, possibly a bit of oxidation on the housing. It's even and most wouldn't object. Still the Nicest I have seen on the Secondary Market. There are other's on eBay; you get what you pay for. It is said 'you soon forget price if the Quality is there...'

Please carefully view the Ultra Tight Close Up photos, in that it’s like examining the reel with a 10x or stronger loop. Extremely Critical and magnifies every speck of dust or imperfection. (more...)
