MASSIVE - EDWARD VOM HOFE 14/0 Commander Ross Game Reel Bidding has ended

Here is a wonderful example of an early, massive Edward vom Hofe 14/0 Commander Ross big game fishing reel from 1936. This scarce big game reel is stamped with the model number 732 as well as the size, 14/0, and the dating code, "C" 92. This huge reel measures 7 inches in diameter and 4 1/4 inches across the inside spool. Almost impossible to find, this very desirable, early version of the Commander Ross reel has no rim throw levers to operate the free-spool or clicker. It also has the sliding oiler cap in the 2 o'clock position and the early hard rubber cap at the center. The reel also sports the early small tulip/bicycle grip knob. The reel has a small chip in the hard rubber at the top of the front rim but is in otherwise wonderful condition both aesthetically and mechanically. The 14/0 Commander Ross reel was only made for a few years to compete with reels like the Hardy Zane Grey as well as reels made by Kovalovsky, J.A. Coxe and Fin-Nor to name a few. The Commander Ross reels were the reel of choice for such notable anglers as Michael Lerner and S. Kip Farrington. Ernest Hemingway also used Vom Hofe Commander Ross reels on occasion. VERY FEW of these non-cradle Edward vom Hofe 14/0 big game reels exist and this example, unlike most, has all its original parts.
