You are bidding on an absolutely gorgeous Granger (Wright & McGill) "Victory" split Bamboo Rod, with Rod Bag. Wow, you sure don’t come across these everyday, especially in such amazing condition as this one. As in all my auctions, I will attempt to explain with both words and detailed pictures, the full detail of this rod assembly.

It is a pretty rare occasion you find a Victory like this one, in such outstanding condition. Here are the specifics....

Maker: Goodwin Granger of Denver Colorado

Model: Victory, Model G79053

Materials: Flawless original vintage granger split bamboo

Ferrules: Nickel silver polished fit and tight with welts.

Reel Seat: Screw lock nickel silver reel seat in excellent condition

Rod Length: 9' Total (Each segment is 36-3/4" long)

Stamping: The reel seat is stamped: “PAT. APR 12, 1938 PAT. NO. 2.114.107. MADE BY GOODWIN GRANGER COMPANY DENVER”

Varnish: Exquisite flawless multi-coat spar finish.

Guides: There are seven snake guides, and stripper guide, and tip guide in a complete rod assembly.

Straightness: All rod sections appear very straight. I took a picture of this so you could see for yourself.

Rod Bag: A Rod bag is included. Perfect condition with no tears of holes. I am not sure is this is the original Granger bag or or an aftermarket.

Quality of Cane: Excellent cane with no flaws such as water spots, delamination, or sections that do not match, etcetera.

Whippings: Perfectly executed wraps with variegated fine silk threads.

Up for auction today is my Orvis Light Salmon 8’6” 3/2 bamboo fly rod, serial #31617. This rod is the more sought after 3 piece Lt. Salmon with a removable fighting butt. I like it best with a 7wt double taper line, which this rod throws more than a country mile. Rod is also impregnated as are all Orvis bamboo rods, which are known their high quality construction and forgiving action. This rod is in excellent original condition and is ready for action. I have used this to fish for Salmon, Steelies, large trout and bass and every fish landed has been a pleasure to fight on the Light Salmon’s elegant action. What more can you want… a legendary bamboo fly rod impregnated with fish catching mojo! Please refer to pictures for rod’s condition. The marks on the ferrules are marks not scratches. I am also listing some other high quality bamboo rods and a reel so please check my other auctions. Thanks for looking and tight lines.

I HAVE A SCARCE F.E.THOMAS 5 WT 7' BAMBOO FLY ROD FOR SALE.THERE ARE 2 TIPS 1 PERFECT AND 1 WITH A SMALL FIXABLE CRACK NEAR THE TIP. THE BUTT HAD A STAMPED ROD SEAT # E F

5

THE ROD CLOTH BAG IS ORIGINAL (FROM PICTURES OF SIMILAR ROD BAGS( AND THE TUBE IS A THOMAS ROD COMPANY FROM THE DECAL THAT IS PRETTY WORN, THIS IS A FLY ROD THAT THE OWNER HAD HOURS OF ENJOYMENT USING.VERY LIGHT TO THE TOUCH ,THE ROD GRIP SHOWS USE,THE BUTT CAP HAS STAMPED F.E.THOMAS. SPECIAL BANGOR,ME,,,THE BOTTOM SECTION IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE AND THIS WOULD BE A GOOD ADDITION TO ANY COLLECTORS COLLECTION. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS EMAIL ME AT W1CBI@VERIZON.NET....DAVID length of each section is 42 1/2" on the 2 tips and the same for the bottom butt section. It is very had to tell if in the tip section crack is a true crack or a scrape,I tried to take a photo but it shows nothing because of how narrow it is,I think this if it is a crack is very fixable and would make the tip very useable if you want this to fish with.As this is the 1st bamboo fly rod I've picked to feel how it would be like to cast I was amazed at the lightness and how it felt to hold it.The people that made this were true artists.rod grip is 5 1/2" in long and there is no "buy it now" price and my camera is real hihg end so pics are best I can do ...sorry I was also asked to put the value appraiser for .I was told it was a 5 wt rod, the varnish aaappears to be good and the wraps on the guides are good, tried to get a pic of the crack/scrape but it is so narrow it doesn't come out with the camera I have..sorry.

I emailed these pics to a person that is a vintage rod appraiser :Your rod is one that should be seen in the flesh so to speak as it is quite scarce, currently with the photos I’d say $700.00 but that could increase by half if the second tip is repairable or not in need of repair but it should be checked. …….It’s definitely a Special Model and appears original.

I had to correct the title as there is some debate about the E F 5 stamped on the butt one school says it is a numbering system for the reel seat the other a dating system .From info recieved if it is a dating system starting in 37 with a A the the E would make it 1942, I originally was informed it was pre37 so listed it this was so to be possibly more accurate I've changed the title....David

I have up for auction a Granger Deluxe 9050. This rod is in excellent condition. This classic Colorado rod is truly collectable and absolutely fishable. If you want to experience the smooth but powerful taper Grangers are famous for, load this "top of the line" Granger with a Cortland Sylk DT6 or 7....... it is magnificent!

Here are the spec's:

* The rod is a 9' 3 piece rod with 1 extra tip
* All sections are very straight and are of equal length-36 inches
* The distinctive nickle silver reel seat is in near perfect condition without a single ding or scratch
* The finish is in good condition. With close inspection you can see a few "touch up" areas. This rod was purchased from an elderly gent from the Sierra Nevadas. He apparently found it necissary to do some touch ups (God Bless him).
* The wraps and guides are all present and in excellent condition
* All sections go together and come apart with a nice "pop".
* The cork grip is in excellent condition, very little ridging.
* 1 tip section is slighly lighter in color than the other 3 sections. I was told it is a new replacement tip directly from Granger. It looks brand new.
* Rod sock is new but not original
* Alumin tube is in very good condition but not original

Please ask all questions before bidding.

Here for your perusal is a HARDY BAMBOO ROD!! the "PALAKONA" This baby is sweet. I had to try it out today, again. I just got a Hardy JLH Ultralite #6 with a 5wt line. I'm not a great distance caster because the streams I fish don't need it. I can land a fly where it needs to be. I layed out about 65 feet of line with my leader just as straight as it should be. WOW The cork on this rod is clean with the reel seat that's about 4" and then a cigar type handle It has a stationary seat with a locking ring that slides down over the reel foot. It POPS when taken apart. Yes POPS. All of the snake guides are in great shape as well as the stripping brass eye. The rod was built in November of 1971 according to the letters L for November and Z for 1971. The writting on the rod starts out with 7' 2" on one side and L/Z on the other. It then barber poles up... Regd Trade Mark the "Palakona" #5 . On the butt is says Made by Hardy's England Then the reel seat says HARDY'S REGD UNIVERSAL REEL HOLDER It has no writting on the ring. The reel holder has 4 screws into the cork. The cork feels a bit rough in my hands casting, but I may be spoiled by my Superfines and Zero G. The ferral is tarnished from age I guess. This rod is not refinished it is just very well preserved/taken care of. The wraps are about 6 green the 1/2" of dark blue then about 6 green again. I bought a rod tube and sack that will move with this guy. The tube has a dent in the side from being knocked over. Kids, gotta love 'em. I don't usually place a reserve on my auctions but this one I am. I feel like it is well worth my reserve. I seriously doubt you will be disappointed with this rod. BBBUUUTTT if you are I will take it back after a Three day inspection. In the SAME CONDITION as it left me. It will be insured and delievery conformation attatched. International insurance alway for me gets held for awhile in customs so I don't insure international.

Orvis' Very Rare Bamboo Classic: The "Mighty Mite"

The Orvis Mighty Mite is One of The Very Finest Bamboo Fly Rods Ever Made and Very Seldom Seen Anymore! This one is a little 2/1 (2 pcs, one tip, originally they were 2/2), 5 Foot, 5 Weight (HEG) that is only 1-1/2 Ounces. Which makes it Perfect for Spring Creek Trout Fishing next year! Although I don't do much fishing anymore, according to Orvis it has surprizing power to be so small and compact. Besides, according to everyone I spoke to, its a blast to fish with. While it's original weight was graded for 5 lines back then, I'm sure it will cast a 4, and maybe even a 3 in todays versions. As I remember this little bamboo wonder came out in the mid to late '60s and it has been a beloved classic ever since. As a mater of fact, Orvis now makes a Reproduction "Mighty Mite" like this little beauty that sells for $3,500. You can see for yourself at Orvis.com. But evenso, the Master Bamboo Rod Builder I spoke to at the factory tells me that they're no longer able to build rods in this rich, dark bamboo like this one anymore. Reason being, the EPA now requires Orvis to use electric furnaces for tempering, unlike the fire harding process done back then. He added that he still has a 'very limited supply' of the older, darker bamboos set asided, and used only for just such classics as this one.
